Film Fan Fridays for Friday September 2, 2011

Hello Film Fans and Fanatics!

Welcome to Film Fan Fridays for Friday September 2, 2011! It's a quiet week for new releases as we head into Labour Day weekend and the last weekend before The Toronto International Film Festival begins. But if you are into conspiracy theories, science fiction or sharks there will be something to keep you entertained.

Our sole limited release is the Bollywood thriller That Girl in Yellow Boots starring Kalki Koechlin & Naseeruddin Shah. Wow. Just one. And it's the second time it's in the city as it was here for TIFF last year.

Our 2 wide release are the conspiracy/sci-fi thriller Apollo 18 that's going with the found footage feel and centred on NASA's abandoned Apollo 18 mission, it's directed by Gonzalo López-Gallego and I quite enjoyed his dark film King of the Hill / El Rey de la montaña, so this one being sci-fi is definitely on my radar. Our second release might be one of the most promoted films this summer and that's the party-vibed, cottage-set, water monster movie Shark Night 3D. It's one bloody way to end the summer and feels like people were paying attention to how well Piranha 3D did last summer. I'm a sucker for water movies so I might head out to this one too.

Although we are light on regular releases there are some awesome special screenings to note:

Warrior - Advance Screenings
Sunday September 4, 2011 at 7pm at Scotiabank, Varsity, Silvercity Yonge & Eglinton and more theatres. I can't WAIT to see this MMA fighting film starring Tom Hardy & Joel Edgerton - two of my favourite working actors out there right now. Total dream team, too bad they are at odds with each other in the film!

The Projection Booth screens the New Zealand horror Wound & documentary Herschell Gordon-Lewis: The Godfather of Gore starting Friday September 2, 2011 and screen over the weekend and then some. Check The Projection Booth website for more details.
