Fantasia Awards 2011

The Fantasia International Film Festival finished up it's 15th festival this weekend in Montreal. Every year I hear amazing stories about the films and the festival experience, and looking at the film list blows my mind. The festival features fantasy, horror and extreme titles from around the world as well as premieres for upcoming big titles on many a genre fans must-see list. Yep, it sounds like an awesome. I also am always astounded and impressed by the endurance of the festival and the people who run it and attend, given it's mega-length of 3 weeks long. That easily makes Fantasia one of the festivals I most want to go to and grants it a spot on my Mega-List. How can you not love a festival that has an audience awarded prize for Guru Prize for the Most Energetic Feature? I mean, seriously. That's amazing.

Let's look at all of the festival awards, as I'm sure many will be added to my own must-see list. I've been lucky enough to see some of the winners already from other festivals like Superheroes at Hot Docs and Legend of Beaver Dam at the Worldwide Short Film Festival but at first glance I know I'll be hoping to see at the very least Milocrorze: A Love Story, Vampire, Monster Brawl and of course Bangkok Knockout sometimes soon.

Worldwide Short Film Festival Award 2011 Winners

Photobucket

It's time to check out the winners for the The Worldwide Short Film Festival for 2011. These awards hold particular weight as the Canadian award winners become eligible for Genie Awards and the winners of the Best Live-Action Short and Best Animated Short are eligible for the Academy Awards. That means we may be seeing some of these names again during the 2012 awards season. Exciting! Although as chance would have it I didn't actually see any of the winners this year. I have dreadful luck with that. Congratulations to all the winners!

The Bravo!FACT Award for Best Canadian Short
Cold Blood / Sang froid, directed by Martin Thibaudeau (Canada)

The Deluxe Award for Best Live Action Short
Aglaée, directed by Rudi Rosenberg (France)
Honourable Mention: Sleepless Night / Nuit blance, directed by Samuel Tilman (Belgium)

The Deluxe Award for Best Performance in a Live-Action Short
Aline Kolditz and Lea Kolditz as Mieke in Fathermotherchild / Vatermutterkind, directed by Daniel Karl Krause (Germany)

The Kodak Award for Best Cinematography in a Canadian Short
Cinematographer Ian Lagarde for Nowhere Elsewhere / Au milieu de nulle part ailleurs, directed by Annick Blanc (Canada)

The Panasonic Award For Best Documentary Short
I Am A Girl!, directed by Susan Koenen (Netherlands)

Honourable Mention: The Gallery / Galeria, directed by Robert Proch (Poland)

The Best Experimental Short
